商品簡介
Lamb (religion, U. of Hawaii at Manoa) examines the evolution and elaboration of the Ram bhakti tradition in India, an important component of Hinduism. He explores the roles of the Ramcaritanas and the practice of Ramnam , the present-day manifestation of Ram bhakti in the form of Ramnami Samaj, the concepts of self-identity formation and the role of brahmanical scholars and scriptures in the construction of Hinduism and Indian history. The author's work draws from his initial contact with the Ramnami Samaj as a Hindu monk some 30 years ago, and an ongoing personal and scholarly relationship with the Ramnamis over the past three decades. The book is academic but accessible to the general reader. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
