商品簡介
In introducing this valuable contribution to Jewish Latin American studies, Brodsky (history, St. Mary's College of Maryland) and Rein (Latin American and Spanish history, Tel Aviv U.) quote Miramar's secretary of tourism regarding the summer influx of Jews to the Argentine beach town: "Jews are more than tourists here. They are part of the history and the future of this city." Instead of the typical emphasis on political history in the study of Jewish Argentines, international scholars present studies on aspects of their social/cultural history including: the not-always-kosher activities of Jewish immigrants, the key role of print media in their urban life, Borges' depiction of Holocaust trauma, Sephardic Zionists, the Jewish community's experience under the Peron dictatorship, Argentine-Israeli relations, and the mainstreaming of Jews in the country's contemporary cinema. Includes supporting tables, figures, and maps. This is a paperbound reprint of the clothbound edition. Annotation c2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
