Schafer (Christian philosophy, U. of Munich) interprets Divine Names as a coherent and self-reliant Platonic treatise, whether it was written by the first-century Dionysius converted by Paul or by a sixth-century student of Proclus--the two main conflicting theories of authorship. Though the treatise is the most studies of texts in the Corpus Dionysiacum, he argues that there is more to its arrangement and methodology than limbs and flourishes, and that its inner structure displays the entire ontological development around which the philosophy revolves. Christian Schafer, Dr. phil. (1995) and habilitation (2000), University of Regensburg, is Professor of Christian Philosophy at the University of Munich. He has published in the field of Presocratic and Platonic Philosophy including Unde Malum (Wurzburg 2002) and Xenophanes of Kolophon (Stuttgart/Leipzig 1996).
