Hate on the Right ― Right Wing Political Groups and Hate Speech

Waltman examines the discourse and language among different right-wing groups to determine the extent of hate speech in play. This study is through a homological lens. That is, it seeks formal resemblances among discourses having different contexts, audiences, substance and even content. The point whether it makes sense to equate the language and discourse produced by different right-wing groups, some that openly endorse racism and hate and those that do not? After describing the right-wing landscape, Waltman examines the racist novel White Apocalypse, followed by Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. He goes on to discuss the role of religion among the right wing, including the Left Behind series of books about an end-times apocalypse. He examines the paramilitary right wing, including the militia movement. His previous book, The Communication of Hate, received the Choice Award for Outstanding Academic Title and the Franklyn S. Haiman Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Freedom of Speech from the National Communication Association.
