As recently as the 1970s, only a few hundred typefaces were published and widely accessible. Today, we can choose from tens of thousands of fonts, with more on the way. The book accompanies an exhibition at the Gutenberg Museum, Mainz, which extended an open call to young, mostly European type designers; those 20 exhibited typefaces are expanded in this publication to 70.
