Donat (Augusta County Public Schools, Fisherville, Virginia) taught kindergarten through second grade for 20 years, as well as university-level language arts courses. She offers teachers and administrators a balanced approach to literacy for kindergarten through the third grade, based on four components: phonological awareness, phonics, contextual reading, and writing.
