But there is one motto that Little Gerbil just can’t manage to keep: Curl Up Nose to Toes when it comes time to go to sleep.Little Gerbil sleeps differently. She starts out by trying to curl up but then her body just wants to uncurl. And she does try really, really hard. She cuddles up with her family and gets all curled up in to position. But then she starts to think about how lovely it would be to stretch out in the sunshine. And when she wakes up in the morning there she is stretched out as flat as a pancake. She always manages to get curled up before everyone else wakes up but Little Gerbil is miserable. She is living a gerbil lie.At the weekly Gerbil Circle meeting she knows she has to tell the truth. And then something very special happens! Little Gerbil discovers that she is not the only one that has problems following some of the Gerbil Mottos. Even Grandpa comes to understand that rules need to be changed sometimes.

Alison Hughes is an award-winning writer who has lived, worked, and studied in Canada, England, and Australia. Her first novel, Poser, was nominated for a Red Cedar and a Hackmatack Award. Gerbil, Uncurled is her first picture book. Alison lives with her family in Edmonton, Alberta, where two busy gerbils have been among their many pets.Suzanne Del Rizzo is a Children's Book Illustrator, specializing in plasticine dimensional illustrations. She is the illustrator of Skink on the Brink. Suzanne lives with her family in Toronto.
