Kant and the Interests of Reason

Arising from his doctoral dissertation, Raedler's essay aims to fill a gap: few commentators have attempted to explain how the notion of the interests of reason fits into Kant's overall account of the functioning of our rational faculties and how it is linked to his wider philosophical project. He aims to show that a proper understanding of Kant's conception of reason as an interested faculty allows us to make sense of key aspects of his practical thought--the fact of reason and the highest good as the complete satisfaction of the interests of reason. Ten chapters are: humans as hybrids; a brief exercise in transcendental idealism; the moral law; the fact of reason; the will; value; the highest good; Aufklurung; social life; conclusion.
