Actions, Reasons and Reason

The 12 essays in this volume explore the concepts of actions, reasons, and reason, drawing on the work of Rudiger Bittner. They consider the relationship between reasons and actions; how reason explanations refer to facts in the world and involve the psychology of the decision-making process and the circumstances under which the person acts; how reasons are advantages of possible actions, and the role of desires, beliefs, and other elements; the roles of practical judgment, regret, human dignity and mutual respect, pacifism and moral judgment, and metaphysics; and the impact of cinema and theatre on reasonable action.
