Walt Kelly (1913-73) was an unreserved moralist who always considered himself a journalist, says Black, and the comic strip Pogo that he started in 1948 was a constant satirical commentary on current events through the voice of a "possum" in the Okefenokee Swamp. He covers getting back there from here, the cartoon journalist, making money and having fun, everyone is equal in the swamp, the evolution of politics in Pogo, the Cold War gets hot, and Simple J. Malarkey. Annotation c2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
