商品簡介
Omissions and errors in the late 19th century Oxford English dictionary are corrected in light of subsequently published references, modern information storage and retrieval capabilities, current linguistic theory, and the waning of Victorian sensibilities. The emphasis is on lexical transmission through overlooked or disregarded works. The 5,000 entries covering 1475-1640 include neologisms, antedatings, post-datings, unregistered senses, additional citations, and corrections, in citations consistent with the OED . Supporting material includes descriptions of the various kinds of entries and a chronological index of sources. Volume 1 presents a census of printed monolingual glossaries and dictionaries from the same period. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
