With a lifetime’s worth of knowledge on how to succeed available to almost anyone, why is it that only a select few seem to reach the pinnacles of mental, physical, and financial success? Weaving together gripping narratives exposing the limitlessness of human potential, with years of research in neuroscience and psychology informing it, The Other Side of Fear answers that question by shedding a revolutionary new light on the single greatest obstacle holding most of us back: fear. Despite its prevalence in our lives and the sway it has over our ability to take necessary risks, fear continues to be misunderstood. We still think of it as negative. We are taught to “overcome” fear; led to believe that we must be “fearless.” Even those who praise its effects distinguish some fears as good, and others as bad or irrational. In The Other Side of Fear these myths will be shattered to reveal the science behind: - Why all fear is rational - How war can be just as traumatic as eating a vegetable - Why free will is an illusion - Why our brains are designed for us to fail in today’s world and what to do about it - How to build a new brain - Why the very conditions we avoid—fear, suffering, and adversity—are in fact required for success and fulfillment - How the same part of our brain that makes success possible also keeps us imprisoned in a life of mediocrity . . . and what to do about it - How to make fear and suffering fun - How to time travel and change the past Want to make more, be more, have more, or do more? The Other Side of Fear provides a wealth of tools, validated by science, on how to turn our greatest obstacle into our most powerful ally.

Akshay Nanavati has mastered the art of embracing fear by overcoming a life of drugs that killed two of his friends, fighting the war in Iraq with the US Marines, climbing mountains all over the world, cave diving, skydiving, quitting a job to spend one month dragging a one-hundred-ninety-pound sled three-hundred-fifty miles across the second largest icecap in the world, and building a business from the ground up. After coming home from the war, Akshay pursued a master’s degree in journalism from the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications to tell a different story about the human experience than the one traditionally told. He has been featured on television and in print, including on CNN, in Forbes, the Huffington Post, and Psychology Today.
