Frost presents this teaching guide on the technique of using paired texts to help build literacy more quickly and dynamically in early education and as a method of efficiently meeting Common Core standards. The first chapter describes in general terms how to integrate paired books into a K-2 curriculum transitioning from read-aloud and discussion to guided or shared reading to independent reading. Further chapters then offer suggested paired texts and ways of engaging them with discussion and writing exercises to develop literary skills such as describing characters, identifying themes, taking multiple perspectives, making connections between fiction and nonfiction, understanding different genres, and contextualizing based on authorship. Example worksheets for children are included in each chapter, and the book is appended with additional teaching resources. The bibliography lists all the children's books mentioned but does not serve as a citation for teaching methods. Annotation ©2016 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
