From the World Health Organization, this report details the recommendations of the 36th WHO Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (ECDD), held in Geneva, Switzerland, in June 2014. The Committee is responsible for the assessment of 26 psychoactive substances, and the report details their previous review by the Committee, similarities to known substances and effects on the central nervous system, their dependence potential, evidence of likelihood or actual abuse, their therapeutic usefulness, the public health and social harm of each, and the Committee's recommendations for scheduling under the international drug control conventions. It also has updates on work from international bodies concerned with controlled substances, a summary of the follow-up on recommendations made at the previous Committee meeting, reports on pre-reviewed substances, and a summary of the discussion on improving data collection and evidence for prioritization and substance evaluation, especially for new psychoactive substances.
