New Mobilities and Social Change in Russia?s Arctic Regions

This book provides the first in-depth, multidisciplinary study of re-urbanization in Russia’s Arctic regions, with a specific focus on the new mobilities, and the resulting birth of new urban Arctic identities.

It is divided into three main sections. Part I investigates the current reasons surrounding the new patterns of Arctic mobilities, including demographics, the politics of industrial policies to attract new migrants for work, and the role of market economy and the rise of a services economy in appealing to migration. Part II explores the new urbans, their mobility patterns and their social capital, and Part III analyses the urban fabric that emerges from these new mobilities and rising multiculturality.
