Teaching Secondary and Middle School Mathematics

Teaching Secondary and Middle School Mathematics is designed for pre-service or in-service teachers. It combines up-to-date technology and research with a vibrant writing style to help teachers grasp curriculum, teaching, and assessment issues as they relate to secondary and middle school mathematics. The fifth edition includes greater coverage and alignment to the Common Core State Standards, a new chapter on tools and technology, and greater focus on classroom management, special education, and more on differentiating instruction.

Daniel Brahier is a professor of mathematics education at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and Director of the Science and Math Education in ACTION scholarship program at BGSU. He also teaches junior high (Grades 7 and 8) mathematics at St. Rose School in Perrysburg, Ohio. He has worked in the field of education for more than 35 years, having served as a high school and middle school mathematics teacher, a science teacher, a guidance counselor, a high school principal, and a district curriculum coordinator before assuming a full-time position at the university level. He is a past president of the Ohio and the Greater Toledo Councils of Teachers of Mathematics and is the author of six books on teaching mathematics. He has written extensively for publications of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and has served on the Editorial Panel for Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School andInvestigations in Mathematics Learning journals. He has lectured and presented workshops on mathematics education in Jamaica, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Germany, and Singapore, in addition to school districts throughout the United States. Dr. Brahier spends his free time writing and recording music, as well as hiking and camping with his wife and three sons.
