Cellular Implications of Redox Signaling

Gitler and Danon, both affiliated with the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, describe the state of research on redox regulation, a covalent regulatory system that controls many of the normal cellular functions of living cells and organisms. Some areas examined include the role of thioredoxin and glutaredoxin systems in disulfide reduction and thiol redox control, iron-sulfur proteins, radical scavenging by thiols, and redox flow as an instrument for gene regulation.
