Lecercle (English, U. of Nanterre, France) seeks to construct a Marxist philosophy of language. He first critiques the linguistics of Noam Chomsky as being intentionalist and methodologically individualist and Jürgen Habermas's philosophy of language as being structured on liberal conceptions. He also reviews the fragmentary and sketchy tradition of Marxist thinking about language, eventually proposing a Marxist conceptualization of language as a cultural construct and making the case that English is the language of imperialism. 作者簡介
Jean-Jacques Lecercle was educated at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris. From 1999 to 2002 he was Research Professor in the English department at the University of Cardiff, and he is currently Professor of English at the University of Nanterre. He is the author of Interpretation as Pragmatics (Macmillan 1999), Deleuze and Language (Palgrave 2002) andThe Force of Language (with Denise Riley, Macmillan 2004).
