商品簡介
Originally published in 1976, this biography by Maki (emeritus, U. of Massachusetts at Amherst) follows the life of William Smith Clark (1826-1886), whose eight-month stint in Hokkaido advising the Meiji government on the establishment of the Sapporo Agricultural College was of enduring influence in the history of education at Hokkaido U. (the successor to the Agricultural College). Maki traces Clark's life from his childhood, through his work helping to found the institution now known as the U. of Massachusetts at Amherst and the aforementioned school in Hokkaido, and to his activities afterwards.
