Co-curated by Aiden O’Connor and Elna Svenle, this exhibition presents for the first time a survey of progressive Nordic design for children in the 20th and 21st centuries. Richly illustrated, and intertwining design with the social history and continuing redefinition of childhood, it features furniture, toys, schools, playgrounds, health and safety products, posters and advertising, and more. Organised chronologically, it represents the different Nordic countries and diverse design disciplines, revealing a strong connection with nature and natural materials, practicality and economy, egalitarian values, empathy for the child’s perspective, and the endurance of folk traditions.
