This path-breaking book analyses young sporting women with physical disabilities and studies and explores their lived experience of a body which, on the one hand, is viewed as deviant - the disabled body - and on the other hand is viewed as accomplished - the sporting body. Elisabet Apelmo shows how these young women handle the two subject positions that emerge as a result of the perception of them as respectively deviant and accomplished and demonstrates the forms of femininity which are available to them as well as the strategies of resistance they develop against the marginalisation, stereotyping and othering they experience in their everyday lives.
