A Guide to Writing Social Stories ─ Step-by-step Guidelines for Parents and Professionals

Williams, a clinical psychologist, and Wright, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, offer a guide for parents and professionals to writing personalized Social Stories for children with autism spectrum disorders, to provide information about specific social situations to increase their understanding. Developed as part of a large research study to evaluate their effectiveness in the UK, the guide is based on Carol Gray's 10.2 revised criteria for Social Stories and describes the characteristics of autism and Asperger's syndrome, Social Stories, and why they are relevant; writing Social Stories for children, with an emphasis on those in the UK; and examples of the writing process, including how to gather information.
