Spintronics has emerged as one of the most promising replacements for complementary metal-oxide semiconductor technology, say Kaushik and Verma, which is reaching its limit to miniaturization. They review key issues of spin transfer torque (STT)-based devices, circuits, memories, and system architectures. They discuss magnetic memories and STT, magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs), STT MRAMs, hybrid MTJ-CMOS digital circuits, nonvolatile computing with STT MRAMs, STT-based all spin logic, and nonvolatile computing with all spin information processing.
