臺灣位處於海空航線的幅湊，地居要津，自從十六世紀大航海時代以降，總是成為列強覬覦的目標，而屏東位於島嶼之南，地位更是險中之要，在屏東縣境發生的戰事與紛擾再再地改變了近代國際歷史，在今日承平時期自是無法感受到昔日戰火煙硝的肅殺之氣，但過去幾百年間的斑斑血淚，卻為屏東縣留下為數眾多的人文史蹟，這些史蹟有的被指定保護，有的卻遺失在荒煙蔓草之間。近年來，屏東縣政府藉由積極的作為，戮力尋覓散逸在縣境各地的歷史遺物，得古蹟十三處，聚落二處，歷史建物三十餘處，成果不可謂不豐，透過這些史蹟遺物的串連，臺灣四百年來的歷史也就漸漸如卷軸般地在眼前鋪陳開來，屏東的歷史主導了臺灣的歷史，臺灣的歷史又主導了東亞的國際歷史。
Taiwan, an island situated in the pivot of both air and shipping route, had for a long time been cast a covetous eye by the Great Powers for its critical strategic position since the Age of Great Voyages in the 16th century. Pintung, the very southernmost tip of the island, had been entitled with an even greater importance. Battles and turmoils raged on this land shaped the courses of international history in modern times. It's naturally hard for one to sense the sound of canons and tension of the past at the present days of peace, even though the history of tears of blood left behind a substantial amount of relics in the realm of the county. Some of them are appointed to be protected while others were lost in the depths of desolated lands. In recent years, Pingtung County Government embarked on an active search for the scattered historical relics in every corner of Pintung County. They have discovered thirteen sites of relics, two settlements and more than thirty historical structures. The result is nothing short of a great success. Through the dots connected by these relics, the four-hundred-year history of Taiwan reveals itself slowly like an unfolding scroll. The history of Pingtung lead the proceeding of the history of Taiwan; likewise, the history of Taiwan lead the proceeding of the history of the nations in East Asia.
