Ellis (political science and history, Lethbridge Community College, Canada) chronologically examines the evolution of Canada's Reform Party from its founding in the late 1980s to its eventual decommissioning in 1999. His analysis of the relationship between the party's leadership is principally concerned with the perspective of the members in the context of the dynamic tension between exercising their influence and following the guidance of the party's leadership. He also provides more detailed statistical consideration of the attitudes, opinions, and characteristics of party activists at two pivotal moments in time: the 1989 Reform Party Assembly, the first primarily composed of representatives elected at the constituency association level, and the 1992 Assembly, the first to include representation from the constituency associations east of the Manitoba-Ontario provincial boundary.
