His Holiness the Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje, was born to a nomad family in rural eastern Tibet in 1985. He is the widely seen as a successor to the Dalai Lama for his eloquence— grounded in rigorous Buddhist education—in advancing universal human values. He is the head of one of the four main Tibetan Buddhist traditions and the seventeenth incarnation in the Karmapa lineage, which dates back to the twelfth century.
