This book describes the life of Nobel Laureate Ivar Giaever, from his early youth in a farm in Norway to his time in the Norwegian military; from his first job in the Norwegian Patent Office to his marriage to his childhood sweetheart; from his emigration to Canada to his eventual employment at General Electric's Research Laboratory in Schenectady, where he performed the work that led to his Nobel Prize in physics. He then entered biophysics, working on Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS), which eventually led to the foundation of a new company, Applied Biophysics Inc.
