The Pauli Exclusion Principle - Origin, Verifications, And Applications

This is the first comprehensive scientific book devoted solely to the Pauli Exclusion Principle. Beginning with an introduction and historical overview, the book goes on to cover modern studies of the Pauli Exclusion Principle and its numerous applications in physics and chemistry.

The foundations of the principle and its applications (e.g. methods of finding of the Pauli-allowed states in atomic and molecular spectroscopy) are discussed in the book. Special attention is devoted to experimental verifications of the possible violations of the Pauli Exclusion Principle, and the existing attempts to present theoretical proofs of the principle and the spin-statistics connections. The last chapter is devoted to the deviations from the Fermi and Bose statistics in the case of composite particles and to the statistics of the quasiparticles in a periodical lattice which obey the modified parafermi statistics. Such exotic objects as the anyons and fractional statistics are also discussed.

Ilya Kaplan has been studying the Pauli Exclusion Principle for more than 35 years and is a well-known scientist in this field. He has published 4 books in Russian, 4 books in English, including the Wiley title Intermolecular Interactions, and 11 book chapters, one of which was devoted to the Pauli Exclusion Principle. He was also an Associate Editor for Wiley's Handbook of Molecular Physics and Quantum Chemistry, published in 2003.
