商品簡介
The name Mercury, the Messenger of the Gods, has been used for centuries by European chroniclers and gazetteers in the titles of periodicals that have featured the latest news reports, anecdotes, short stories, and satires. In this spirit, Mercurio is organized around themes of social and cultural relevance to contemporary Italian society. Such topics as immigration, youth and popular culture, and the role of bicycles in Italian society are explored from multiple viewpoints. Mercurio combines linguistic, literary, and sociocultural elements to produce a meaningful and realistic representation of contemporary Italy. In chapter I, for example, students are introduced to the bicycle not only as a means of transportation but also as a social and cultural icon rooted in recent Italian history.
Each chapter contains excerpts from short stories, novels, songs, and poems by authors who are active on the Italian and international cultural scene.
Mercurio emphasizes both cultural content and language acquisition. It is designed to complement current grammars and can easily be used to supplement textbooks used in introductory courses in cultural studies.
