One of two volumes containing a selection of proceedings from the Leeds International Medieval Congress in 2001; the papers focus on Christian Europe and primarily address the nature of affective relationships within the family and the manner in which such relationships were regulated in more public arenas. The volume draws together work from various disciplines (historical, art-historical, literary) and represents a broad geographic spread (including Poland, Croatia, and other areas not often considered in texts on the medieval family).
