Steve Odland is the President & CEO of the Committee for Economic Development, and the former Chairman & CEO of Office Depot, Inc., and AutoZone, Inc. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of General Mills, Inc. and Analogic Corporation, is a Trustee of The Conference Board, a Senior Advisor to Peter J. Solomon Company, and is a Contributor to CNBC. He received his Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master’s of Management degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.Joseph J. Minarik is the Senior Vice President & Director of Research of the Committee for Economic Development. He was the chief economist of the Office of Management and Budget for the eight years of the Clinton Administration, helping to formulate the Administration’s program to eliminate the budget deficit, including both the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993 and the bipartisan Balanced Budget Act of 1997. Prior to that, he worked closely with Senator Bill Bradley on his efforts to reform the federal income tax, which culminated in the Tax Reform Act of 1986, writing Making Tax Choices in 1985, and Making America’s Budget Policy in 1990. Previously, he served as Chief Economist to the House Budget Committee and staff director of the Joint Economic Committee. He received his B.A. in Economics from Georgetown University, and three graduate degrees from Yale University, including a Ph.D. in Economics.
