Terry's story is one of survival in the face of natural disasters, economic collapse and bitter rivalries. In 1942, on the brink of financial ruin, he created a cartoon superstar, Mighty Mouse, that saved his studio from financial ruin. Today, "Here I Come to Save the Day!" the famous shout of Mighty Mouse as he bolts into action, is an almost universally recognized phrase. Terry followed this success by creating the popular mischievous magpies Heckle and Jeckle, as well as many other familiar characters before the sale of his studio to CBS in 1955 that launched the careers of animation prodigy Ralph Bakshi (Fritz the Cat) and Oscar® winners Ernest Pintoff and Gene Deitch.
