Compulsory Liability Insurance from a European Perspective

Finding that the statutory obligation to take out liability insurance to ensure compensation of damage arising from dangerous activities is widespread but has attracted little scholarly attention, researchers created a questionnaire and distributed it in nine European countries. Here they present and analyze the results. The questionnaire asks about the term compulsory liability insurance, aims, content of insurance cover, protection mechanisms, supervision and sanctions, statutory provisions required by the constitution or the European Convention on Human Rights, reform efforts, and compulsory liability insurance and liability law. In addition to the country reports and a comparative report, they present special reports on European Union law, constitutional law, contract law, economic perspectives. and the legal environment.
