Textbook of Dementia Care ― An Integrated Approach

Dementia has become a priority for health and social care services across the world. An increasing number of older people has resulted in an increasing number of people with dementia, often with complex needs, and we need to look at new humane and efficient ways of supporting people.

This evidence-based textbook gives an overview of the whole topic of dementia, with an emphasis on practice. Taking a collaborative approach, it is written by authors from a wide range of health and social care backgrounds and includes the perspectives of people with dementia, as well as family carers. Divided into four parts, the text discusses:

• the contemporary context for dementia care – including policy perspectives, models of dementia, and family and community input
• pathways and settings for supporting people with dementia – including hospital care, transitions into care and physical health care
• key issues in dementia – including symptoms, medication and younger people with dementia
• future practice – including technology and changing social responses to dementia

Designed for professionals undertaking further study in dementia care, this book will also support pre-registration students undertaking placements in the area and constitute an important reference for the workplace.
