Schrijver (Vrije U., Amsterdam) and Weiss (U. of Amsterdam) have both served on committees of the International Law Association (ILA). In introducing this volume of 27 contributions, the editors situate "sustainable development" as a concept that has matured into a normative legal standard accepted by countries and international organizations. Chapters treat the associated evolution of principles, practices, national, and international contexts relating to trade, foreign investment, human rights, and natural resources and waste management.
