• Electrical Engineer in a company of hospital maintenance, and also as designer of electrical installations of buildings and housings.

The author was President of one of biggest higher teaching institution in Portugal, having achieved an increase in the size of the institution in more than 50% in terms of number of schools and the number of students, among other equally significant successful ratios.

The author is the Portuguese National Coordinator of the Industrial Maintenance Specialization of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (the Portuguese long term course association).

The author is Counsellor Member of the Portuguese National Coordinator of the Industrial Maintenance Specialization of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (the Portuguese long term course association).

The author is Auditor for some maintenance standards.

The author is a reviewer of several international and national scientific and professional journals.

The author is a reviewer of several international and national conferences, as well as member of their scientific committees.

The author is member of several international and national professional and scientific associations.

The author, during his professional activities in companies, developed several activities like the followings:

• Responsible for general maintenance of hospitals’ facilities in the Central Region of Portugal, namely lifts, generator sets (emergency), cooking equipment, cooling and laundry equipment;
• Responsible for electrical networks, including transformer stations;
• Leadership of various maintenance teams to the implementation of planned maintenance of hospitals;
• Design of electrical installations, their specifications, as well as supervision of their execution, of the buildings of Regional Health Administration;
• Design of the electrical/electronic project of lifts for transport of kitchen foods in hospitals;
• Design of electronic command systems for gloves washing machines;
• Design of a temperature alarm systems (minimum and maximum) for refrigerated medications case;
• Design of a commutation systems for Diesel-Electrical generators.

The author has several patents, international and national, namely one about saving water and other about rapid cooking.
