商品簡介

All hospitals have critically ill patients, and their management depends upon the resources available. In the developing world, critically ill patients may be admitted to a critical care unit, however many are nursed on wards due to a lack of critical care beds or simply die before they reach the hospital. This book provides guidance on the unique challenges for nurses working in this environment, with regards to ethical decision making, providing appropriate services and the types of patients admitted.

Highlighting the realities of working in the developing world, including conditions and situations not seen in the developed world, Critical Care Nursing in Resource Limited Environments prepares readers to consider how best to utilize their skills and deliver safe patient care. Each easy-to-read chapter provides core knowledge as well as useful ideas and solutions, with further reading sections to signpost readers to key international resources. The chapters cover:

* Working in a resource limited environment * Cultural awareness * International agendas * Access and provision of healthcare services * Providing critical care in resource limited environments * Critical care equipment * Environmental and infection prevention control considerations * Managing a major incident in critical care * Ethical considerations and mission creep * Recognition of the acutely ill patient * Oxygen therapy and monitoring * Mechanical ventilation * Sepsis and septic shock * HIV * Tuberculosis * Tropical medicine * Malaria * Tetanus * Cholera * Sickle cell anaemia * Principles of trauma care * Principles of burns care * Surgical care * Principles of wound care * Surgical site infection * Pain management * Women's health * Paediatrics * Organophosphate poisoning * Snake and scorpion bites * Hypertension * Diabetic keto-acidosis * Resuscitation * Useful calculations * Rehabilitation and physiotherapy * Nutrition * Sharing best practice and Knowledge * Conducting audit and research in resource limited environments *
