Wholehearted Teaching of Gifted Young Women ― Cultivating Courage, Connection, and Self-care in Schools

The unique social-emotional needs of gifted and high-achieving young women rarely are included in schemas of potentially vulnerable populations. Wholehearted Teaching of Gifted Young Women: Cultivating Courage, Connection, and Self-Care in Schools suggests that this oversight can lead to a masked affective crisis. This book offers new insights into the complex social-emotional needs of high-achieving young women. Based on data from a longitudinal study of gifted young women that spanned junior year of high school through college graduation, this book is framed by the personal and courageous stories of 20 student researchers. This research builds toward a new affective framework to cultivate courage, connection, and self-care in schools. Filled with practical suggestions and relatable stories, "Wholehearted Teaching for Gifted Young Women" offers strategies for parents, teachers, counselors, and high-achieving young women as they navigate the precipice of youth and everything after.
