Historians examine a somewhat neglected epoch of the Mediterranean world from the Late Bronze Age to the dawn of the Iron Age, which is also the beginning of the historical period. Though the timing and nature of such transformations varied from place to place and people to people, the accounts focus roughly on the years 1200-600 BC. The sections cover the Mediterranean region as a whole, areas within that region, and aspects of cultural contact. The geography rotates clockwise from the Iberian Peninsula through France, Italy, continental southeastern Europe, Greece and the islands, Asia Minor, and the Near East to North Africa and the Canary Islands.
