商品簡介
This book contains 12 essays that examine the role of universities in South Africa in place-based development, growth, and sociocultural change, recommending that policymakers and stakeholders focus on the neighborhoods of these universities and how they may be improved through closer relationships between universities and local partners. Academics and administrators address the relationship between knowledge innovation and development in South Africa, then specific cases, such as Nelson Mandela Metropolitan U., the U. of the Witwatersrand and Johannesburg, the U. of Pretoria, the U. of Fort Hare, and universities in East London-Buffalo City, as well as comparative perspectives and analyses of developments in other parts of the world, such as the US. The book is a product of the City-Campus-Region project at the U. of Fort Hare and its conference held in September 2016 in Cape Town, South Africa.
