Like all volumes in the series, this one is based on Martin West's Greek text of the Iliad (Bibliotheca Teubneriana 1998/2000). Brügger provides four levels of commentary on Book 16. The most important, in regular type, is for all readers and does not require knowing Greek or even Greek letters. Standard philosophical commentary is in medium type. In small type is specific information on particular subfield of Homeric scholarship. Finally, an elementary section to facilitate an initial approach for school and university students appears beneath a dividing line at the foot of the page.
