What is Renal Diet?
A renal diet is a very strict, low-protein diet that many people with kidney disease must follow. It is also called a low-protein diet or the "low potassium" diet. This type of food plan includes at least three servings of breads and cereals, five servings of vegetables, two fruits, two to four servings of dairy products, and three to six small portions per day.

The benefits of a renal diet are different for each person. Some people have to follow this type of diet because their bodies cannot properly handle certain foods. However, while both types of diets are low in fat and calories, a renal food plan does not restrict carbohydrates or fats as much (depending on the disease).
