In this fast moving technological era, human beings forget to take care of their

health. Physical and mental health is under threat. As part of that people suffer from severe

illnesses. Cancer is a predominant psycho-neurological condition in present day. Cancer

affects human being's life in multi dimensional modes including psychological, physical,

medical, social and economical. Efforts taken by the medical and psychological

professionals to help cancer patients and survivors threw much hope. Many studies are also

been conducted to explore the personality and behavioural aspects of cancer patients and

how they influence the social elements such as family and society.


Diagnosing a disease such as one that may generally perceived as terminal in nature like cancer

creates much thoughts and feelings in a man's mind. Majority of these thoughts are subjective and

more specifically negative. These negative thought worsen the disease condition since the

state of mind has an immediate and direct effect on our state of body.


There has been much debate about the reason behind cancer, whether it is a life style disease or

a genetic one. Evidence proves cancer as a genetic disease as well as a life style

disease; to certain extend that as precipitating factors. One of the studies revealed that cancer

(particularly, mouth, pharynx and larynx) is a life style


disease which had a significant relationship with cigarette smoking (Moore, 1971),
