Nigerian Foreign Policy 60 Years After Independence

This book offers a comprehensive assessment of Nigeria's foreign policy during the first sixty years (1960-2020) of the country's sovereign statehood, as well as the country's foreign policy challenges in the twenty-first century. The first part of the book focuses on conceptual, theoretical and historical perspectives on Nigerian foreign policy; the second part examines Nigeria's bilateral relations; parts three and four explore Nigeria's multilateral relations; and the final part looks at contemporary issues in Nigerian foreign relations, including issues such as terrorism, climate change, globalization, and migration, amongst others. The volume also reexamines the connection and effects of the domestic and external environments on Nigeria's foreign policy. The recent domestic challenges, including terrorism and other sources of insecurity, economic dependency and corruption, have necessitated the government to focus its foreign policy towards combating insecurity, fighting against corruption, and economic diplomacy towards jobs creation. This is with the aim of facilitating the emergence of a secured, stable, viable, resilient and prosperous Nigeria state.
