Sewerage and Urban Drainage Systems

This book is primarily intended for the Undergraduates as well as Postgraduates students of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics & Water Supply Engineering.Drainage systems are in place to remove the excess water in development. This could be floodwater, rainwater, and different kinds of runoff. Drainage systems are also in place to effectively remove wastewater, which is referred to as a sewer system. Built-up areas need to be drained to remove surface water runoff. Traditionally this has been achieved by introducing the systematic sewer systems designed to convey the waste water away as quickly as possible.Drainage systems can contribute to sustainable development and improve the places and spaces where we live, work and play by balancing the different opportunities and challenges that influence urban design and the development of communities. Sustainable drainage systems are necessary to manage storm water locally, to mimic natural drainage and encourage its infiltration, attenuation and passive treatment.
