After completely my Bachelor's, I began working as a forensics technology consultant, investigating white collar crime at a global firm. My first staffing was a high-profile case of financial fraud. As the most junior team member, my role was combing through thousands of bank statements and identifying those that had been surreptitiously altered by the company's CEO. I refined by search approach as I learned the CEO's tactic to obscure client's actual account balances with fake ones, pasting in text field which were typically irregular in their alignment, size, font, or positioning. Weeks of this tedious but necessary task translated into enormous costs for the client, significant dedication of the team's resources, and missed opportunities for developing deeper analytical skills. Even then, this task seemed to be a prime candidate for technological assistance or automation.
