This book presents data and analyses relating to the ways in which EU citizens acquire science-related knowledge, considering the sources and channels they use and the effects of this knowledge on their beliefs, opinions, and perceptions. Based on qualitative and quantitative studies conducted with citizens in Italy, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain and addressing topics such as climate change, vaccines, complementary and alternative medicine and genetically modified organisms, it offers recommendations for the effective communication of science. As such, it will appeal to researchers in the social sciences, STS and communication studies with interests in science communication, as well as journalists and policy makers.
