We don't give much thought to the ways in which alcohol gains first a toehold, and then often a complete stranglehold, over our lives. It's an uninvited guest that we unconsciously invite. And it's universally embraced. How's the funny drinking memes all over social media, and the likes they attract? And the smiley photos, glasses in hand.

Just don't talk about the problems it creates. And how dropping it out of your life feels difficult. Even impossible.

Well, it's designed that way.

Tossing alcohol has nothing to do with willpower, and that's where best efforts fail. Willpower fluctuates, hour by hour - until life throws you one too many curve balls - and you need that instant "relief."

Bang. You just reactivated your addiction, with that one drink. Just like that.

But alcohol solves nothing. Ever. It's a temporary numbing agent.

The drink isn't your friend. It's your bloody worst enemy.

And guess what? You don't need alcohol to be fun - or have fun.
