商品簡介
This book offers a fresh English interpretation of the ancient channels in Chinese medicine, drawing from some of its most authoritative historical texts. It focuses on the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon (Huáng Dì Nèi Jīng), written between 200–300 BCE and widely regarded as the cornerstone of modern Chinese medicine. By examining this revered text, the book provides a unique perspective on how the channels were originally conceptualized and how they have evolved over time.
In addition to exploring the channels outlined in the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon, the book offers a comparative analysis of ancient and modern interpretations, illuminating their continuity and transformation. It brings the earliest documented descriptions of these channels to life, offering readers a rare glimpse into the roots of Chinese medical theory.
The book provides an in-depth examination of the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, moving beyond their brief mentions in the Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon. Through a meticulous English translation of their earliest, more detailed descriptions recorded in The Canon of Difficult Issues (Nàn Jīng), it sheds light on these significant vessels. To enhance this exploration, the book also analyzes the insights presented in Ming dynasty physician Li Shi Zhen’s Study of the Eight Extraordinary Vessels (Qí Jīng Bā Mài Kǎo), weaving ancient wisdom with a scholarly perspective. This thoughtful synthesis offers a comprehensive journey into the profound legacy of Chinese medicine, making it an indispensable resource for practitioners, researchers, and anyone interested in the enduring principles and profound legacy of Chinese Medicine.
序
Preface
Acupuncture has surged in popularity worldwide, captivating doctors and healers who integrate this ancient needling method into their treatments. This led to acupuncture's spotlight in research, where its mechanisms and treatment effects underwent extensive evaluation. Yet, numerous mysteries persist, particularly regarding channels and network vessels. What did ancient Chinese observers discern when they intricately connected limbs and inner organs through a net-like system across the human body? To unravel this mystery, a deep dive into ancient texts and an understanding of precise terminology are essential.
The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon serves as the cornerstone of Chinese Medical thinking, especially in acupuncture theory and treatment. However, accessing precise translations of the Yellow Emperor's Channel system proves exceedingly rare, creating a barrier for English-speaking practitioners in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) community. Today's TCM textbooks often rely on modern channel system descriptions without acknowledging their historical evolution over centuries. In this book, we delve into and translate ancient descriptions of the TCM channel system, encompassing main channels, channel divergences, network vessels, channel sinews, and the eight extraordinary vessels. A comparison with modern descriptions enhances our understanding of their evolution, while the original channel pathology from the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon is appended for reference.
