This work represents the most comprehensive book ever published on the subject of television noir. With over 650 programs represented, detailed information is presented on over 270 series, including many rare and thought-to-be lost series (such as The Detective's Wife and Crime with Father) and never before seen supplements for both aired and unaired pilot films, as well as two supplements that cover never-produced noir series (such as Suture Girl, Black Magic Girl, and Mr. and Mr.).

The genres covered include crime dramas, horror-themed series, fantasies, science fiction, anthology, drama and the rare instances where comedy series fall into the noir category (e.g. Glynis and Sledge Hammer).
